Citi ThankYou points are a valuable loyalty currency when transferred to airline partners. However, for that you would need to have a premium card such as Citi Prestige or the Citi Strata Premier. You can also combine points across your multiple credit cards into a single account as well as gift or receive up to 100,000 points per calendar year to/from other card holders (Citi discontinued its Points Sharing feature in May 2026).
If you only have a basic card such as Citi Rewards+, Double Cash, or Sears Mastercard with ThankYou Rewards, and do not plan to apply for a premium card, you may consider redeeming some of your points for participating gift cards. However, you may want to wait for a 20% off promo, such as the one they had on Cyber Monday for the past few years, or at least a 15% off select brands promo, which runs more frequently.
