Background
Per Kroger website, The Kroger Co. Family of Stores includes: Baker’s, City Market, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Foods Co, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Gerbes, Jay C Food Store, King Soopers, Kroger, Mariano’s, Metro Market, Pay-Less Super Markets, Pick’n Save, QFC, Ralphs, Ruler, Smith’s Food and Drug. Notably absent from this list is Harris Teeter, even though it is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kroger since 2013.
Best Buy gift cards are among most valuable third party gift cards sold by Kroger. While it is still possible to buy them in store (at all of their subsidiary chains), Kroger stopped selling Best Buy gift cards online a few years ago, as did Harris Teeter, which runs its own gift card website. Later both sites stopped selling Home Depot gift cards as well.
In addition, Kroger stopped selling all six “Giving Good” branded “Choice” gift cards, which benefited well established charities. One of them, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital eGift Card, could be converted to Best Buy, among a few other brands (IHOP, Regal, Domino’s and Chili’s). Another one, Habitat for Humanity, could be converted to Home Depot (as well as The Company Store, Buffalo Wild Wings and IHOP). Harris Teeter, on the other hand, continued selling these on their gift card website until last week.
Recent Changes
Harris Teeter gift card website still shows these four “Giving Good” co-branded gift cards: Make-A-Wish, Feeding America, American Cancer Society and Wounded Warrior Project. Gone are just St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (which included Best Buy, as mentioned above) and Habitat for Humanity (which included Home Depot).
In addition (though it is not new), both Kroger and Harris Teeter gift card websites offer the newer kind of convertible gift cards that say “EVERY CARD GIVES BACK 3%” and list all six of these non-profits on the front. However, none of these can be converted to Best Buy or Home Depot. Also, unlike the older Giving Good gift cards associated with individual charities, these explicitly show One4all branding.

In Other News
Neither Kroger nor Harris Teeter sell Amazon gift cards online. They do sell them in store, but exclude them from earning 4x Fuel Points during promotions on all other third party gift cards – along with prepaid reloadable debit cards such as Green Dot and MoneyPaks, prepaid variable load Mastercard & Visa gift cards, and Wireless Phones & Airtime cards. As of July 30, 2025, they’ve added fuel retailer gift cards to the exclusion list. They should still earn 2x Fuel Points anytime though (in store only, as none of these are offered online anyhow).
In addition, recently created Harris Teeter accounts are not recognized at Kroger fuel stations. Older Harris Teeter accounts still work at other Kroger chains and their local partner fuel stations, as before. It is unclear whether this development is intentional or is a result of some glitch.
Unlike Kroger gift card website, Harris Teeter gift card website does not require signing in – instead, they simply let you enter your Plus Card Number or Alt ID at checkout in order to earn fuel points. A simple workaround for those who wish to use their points elsewhere is to enter their Kroger Plus Card Number (from Kroger proper or from any other subsidiary’s, besides Harris Teeter). Currently, though, there is no reason to continue using Harris Teeter’s semi-abandoned gift card site at all, as it doesn’t offer anything that’s not offered by Kroger’s site.
Tips & Ideas
While Habitat for Humanity eGift Cards are gone from both sites, they will not be missed – because both Kroger and Harris Teeter continue to sell “Cheers To You!” One4all eGift Cards online. These cards can be converted to Home Depot as well. Removing St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital eGift Cards, on the other hand, is truly the end of an era, as it was one of the last remaining methods to earn rewards for buying Best Buy gift cards online.
