It used to be unusual for Harris Teeter to run different gift card promotions from the rest of Kroger Family of Companies, but that’s what they’ve been doing lately.
Given the way this promo is structured (you can only earn a total of 200 additional points per transaction, no matter how many gift cards it contains), you are most incentivized to buy lowest possible denominations in separate transactions.
Stack this deal with the current 4x promotion. Then buying a single $25 Apple gift card will get you 300 points (25 x 4 plus 200) – that’s 12 points per dollar! The minimum value for a variable load Apple gift card is just $15. Buying one of those will result in 260 points (15 x 4 plus 200), at an unheard of rate of 17.3 points per dollar!
That’s awesome: buying just four $15 gift cards individually will get you enough points to save $1 off per gallon, up to 35 gallons of fuel (see this post for details about the program) – in other words, spending $60 on gift cards can save you up to $35 on gas!
Use a credit card that offers bonus for spending at grocery stores, such as 4x Membership Rewards from American Express Gold Card (Eugene’s referral link) or 5% cashback from Chase Freedom Flex during Q1.
